| Marketing your town.
Towns and cities are under pressure, either growing too fast or losing their population.
In either case, a new awareness for the importance of branding in town marketing
is required to keep pace with regional, national and international competition. There
is increasing requirement to communicate urban planning and renewal processes.
Economic, social and ecological considerations that often lie far in the future
have to be transparently and comprehensibly communicated to today's residents.
This is necessary, not only to activate participation and acceptance on the part of residents but to create enthusiasm and a positive feeling for the planned measures. Communication
does not simply mean providing citizens with information. On the contrary, it
involves the transfer of ideas and a world view. This too is necessary in order
to harmonize the varying interests and consider them in the project-planning development
stages. Successful towns don't limit their advertising to attracting new business. Far from it! The urban renewals and developments maintain, improve and sometimes create the town's brand and help persuade long-resident companies and people to stay. The
process takes advantage of the whole gamut of the urban scene and exploits famous
buildings, location, etc. in other words all the economic, cultural and social
components the brand requires for a successful town-marketing campaign. |
